Essential

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Future Pathways Counsellor
Sancta Maria International School, Hyderabad is looking to recruit an experienced and resilient Future Pathways Counsellor to join its growing family of vibrant learners and passionate teachers.

Purpose of Role

We are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced Future Pathways Counsellor to provide effective and timely advice and guidance about higher education destinations, careers and other progression routes to our learners and their families to help them make informed choices.
The job holder will report to the Principal and is expected to have a firm understanding of:

  • University application processes and entry requirements
  • Student portfolio building
  • Career opportunities across different sectors
  • Available pathways to access higher and further education, and careers

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure every student from Grade 6 onwards has appropriate access and exposure to careers and study destinations.
  • Counsel high school students and their families about the educational and career pathways that are accessible.
  • Facilitate student portfolios from Grade 8 onwards to help shape and support university choice.
  • Conduct individual conferences with students and families, larger group presentations in workshops, classrooms, and college visits​.
  • Maintain resource bank of print and digital information about colleges, aspirational as well as lesser-known but reputed study destinations and scholarships.
  • Advise students on CVs, personal statements, covering letters and interviews; facilitate letters of recommendation and references.
  • Make effective grade-wise use of the platform Unifrog to engage and advise students in their future pathway planning.
  • Host university visits and fairs in school aligned with the needs and aspirations of specific cohorts of learners.
  • Undertake all requirements needed to have the highest quality application for every student to increase their chances of success to be accepted to their best fit and highest aspirational universities.
  • Assist with standardised tests and other admissions requirements.

The school may assign other tasks from time to time to help operationalise the role. The school may review and modify or amend the Job Description as needed after discussion with the position holder.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

  • Relevant qualification in College & Career Guidance and minimum 3 years’ work experience in College and Careers Counselling.
  • Exposure to understanding the current and future careers.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Openness to new learning opportunities and results oriented.
  • Good working knowledge of Cambridge curriculum especially IGCSE, AS & A Levels and a general understanding of the other curriculum bodies and boards.
  • Excellent communication skills and listening skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability.
  • Strong research skills and IT skills for drafting documents and creating presentations.
  • Established contacts and networks relevant to the job role will be an asset.
